Places and Spaces

Hello everyone! I haven't had the chance to sit down, take my time and blog about what's been going on in my art life over the past few months. Here and now, I want to share with you a few memorable experiences and opportunities that I've been fortunate enough to have recently.

Early last month here in Atlanta, I was invited by Jeremiah Ojo of Creative Milieu to speak to Central Gwinnett High School art students about my work and career. It was fun and fulfilling to show, explain and recieve tons of questions from these young and talented artists. I learned a lot from them that day too!

The following week, I was given the opportunity by fellow artist extraordinaire Jessica Scott Felder to speak to her students at Spelman College about my art and the direction of it as well. As expected, our shared dialogue about the work was more evolved and allowed me to go a bit deeper in explaining and being questioned about the finer nuts and bolts of my practice. This visit really stirred my inclinations to get into HBCU classrooms more often.

On March 24th, Eastman Collective's Perri 'PF"Dash invited me to participate in an exclusive exhibition to kick off a new clothing line, Fourth of November Denim, started by Rock-A-Fella co-founder Kareem "Biggs" Burke. The event was amazing and was a very unique intersection of music, art, fashion and technology. I also had the opportunity to paint and show a customized jacket for the brand that will be featured in one of their flagship stores in the near future.

On April 7th, I was at the Museum of Arts in Sciences in Macon, GA to participate in their Georgia Emerging Artist Biennial. I was one of five Georgia artists nominated and selected for this year's show to exhibit a cross section of work that I've created over the last couple of years. The exhibition was superlative and director Susan Welsh (pictured) also made it known to me that my assemblage "Magbaraka", from the "Kin I'm In" Series, would be acquired and donated as a new addition to the museum's permanent collection!

This past Sunday, I was invited by collector Kerry "The Postman" Davis and CAU director Maritta Poole to speak about my work and experiences at Clark University's Gallery alongside amazing fellow Atlanta artist, Eric Mack. This is probably one of the most enriching functions that I've been a part of in quite some time in regard to artists, collectors and gallerists sharing personal stories, experiences and thoughts about the terrain of the african american art scene in Atlanta and the art world at large.

All in all, the last couple of months of has been great for my personal growth as an artist. The people that I've had the pleasure of meeting and the opportunities that I've had to expose my work to a myriad of communities has truly been a gift that keeps on giving. Thanks y'all.
