The Preacher Pimp
Over the last month, this particular piece has garnered quite a bit of attention in the Macon, Georgia arts community about the way that local ministers have reacted to the subject matter it addresses. These mininsters lobbied and protested the Harriet Tubman tMuseum to remove this assemblage from their current exhibition of black georgia artists and they outright refused to oblige the wishes of the pastors. Now, this group of ministers in making an effort to protest the corporate sponsors of the Tubman Museum as well.
What I want to express is that I'm proud of the Tubman Museum for standing up for its principles and the freedom of expression that all artists hold dear. I'd also like to say thank you to other institutions and supporters who've stood up on the right side of this debate and made their voices known too, so stay tuned everyone.
